Our Work
A Deadly Surgical Error
Background:
After undergoing two tendon surgeries within one month, a 52-year-old man suffered a pulmonary embolism and died. In their grief, the patient’s parents retained Hyatt & Weber for answers.
Approach:
It was discovered that the podiatrist performing the surgeries failed to provide the patient with a blood thinner following both procedures. According to the documentation provided by the podiatrist, the patient had been told about the need for blood thinners but refused to take them.
During out-of-court settlement negotiations, Hyatt & Weber Partner Paul Weber presented compelling evidence that raised issues concerning the accuracy of the podiatrist’s record-keeping.
Results:
Hyatt & Weber obtained a $475,000 settlement for its clients.
